A work of historical fiction about love, family, art, prejudice and the American Dream that weaves four narratives of connected characters: (1) a family from Old Bohemia settling in a community of countryman on Long Island in the mid-1880’s; (2) a young man escaping the violence and chaos of post-war Mexico in the 1890’s for the promise of something better in America; (3) two young and unlikely lovers – an aspiring architect and an aspiring concert violist – in an uphill struggle for the freedom to be together in Manhattan on the cusp of the Nineteenth Century; and (4) a wealthy widow living on the top floor of the Astor Hotel in Manhattan in the mid-to-late 1950’s.
